Yay we went full circle!!
One of the best compliments to me as a Family Photographer are returning clients. Especially if I can continue telling their story through some of life’s most important milestones.
AJ Trefonas was the first person to follow my newly created Facebook business page about 3 years ago, when I started Solstice Photo Art. He and his son Louis were also my very first session I did as a brand new Family Photographer.

Fast forward a couple of years and he proposed to his beautiful girlfriend Kelley and was now in need of an Engagement & Wedding Photographer and they chose me!!
They got married in May last year at the gorgeous Della Terra Mountain Chateau in beautiful Estes Park, Colorado. I don’t usually photograph weddings but make exceptions here and there. 😉
On their wedding day Kelley told me, that she is expecting which got me so excited, I gifted her a mini maternity session. We met on a beautiful, mild Fall morning at Horsetooth Reservoir and celebrated Kelley’s growing baby bump.
Soon after I told her about my dream to photograph a birth one day and asked her if you would let me do hers. I understand how intimate and personal this life event is, so I felt incredibly lucky and blessed when she agreed to let me be her birth photographer.
In the weeks leading up to her due date I studied up on birth photography and read every blog & workshop I could get my hands on. Not only is the lighting tricky in most birth situations, but I was also concerned about everything else that goes into a birth. I honestly didn’t know if I can deal with the emotions or stomach everything.
But when I arrived at the hospital at 10:30pm the night of Jan, 24th all my concerns went away and I was simply in awe with the process, fell in love with the rawness of the event, the intensity of all different stages of birth, the vulnerability of the birthing mother. This experience left me so deeply impacted and connected with the family I felt completely renewed and refreshed in my journey as a Family Photographer.
After a long night I left Kelley + AJ in the early morning hours, to let them bond with their newborn daughter Natia.
About a week later I visited them at their house to take some Newborn pictures of sweet baby girl Tia. Check back next week for a new post about my Newborn Session with the Trefonas Family.
I very much remember when I first started my Family Photography business I didn’t want to photograph weddings or newborns. Not that I don’t like them, they just always intimidated me quite a bit. However, as you can see I didn’t stick with that plan and I am so glad that I got to be there for AJ & Kelley and document all these important life events.
This kind of photography is incredibly meaningful to me and I aspire to create a lot of wonderful memories for growing families. I am still not seeing myself as a wedding photographer, but I have happily added sweet lifestyle newborn sessions to my portfolio.
I created a special package for expecting families called “The growing family experience”. You can find all information
here.
Feel free to share with a friend. The first 3 families to sign up for this package will receive this beautiful (complimentary) heirloom print (11×14) to showcase their favorite image from their sessions.
